Week 4 Reading Reflection

1) Honestly I was a bit surprised that the author classified innovation into four different types, invention, duplication, extension, and duplication. I found this to be pretty neat because I guess I never thought of it as a divided process.

2) I guess it was a bit confusing to "recognize" good problems and solutions, because for the most part i see problems as problems, but its good to know that yeah sure there are problems out there but the solutions could be a bit impractical.

3) Will I still be an innovator if I don't go through all four of the innovation steps?
What would the author consider creative thinking? everything can be creative, but what is the true "creative thinking" the author is referring too?

4) I personally do not believe that creative thinking is detrimental to an entrepreneur, some solutions are not very out of the box and can easily be though of.

Top 5 World Problems

1) War/Hate
      a) stop inputting ideals into other countires
      b) stop being so dang rude to people
      c) just accept people and try to understand them
-- first off I put these in this specific order because I think people would be more likely to do them in this order.
2) Starving Populations
      a) Their government should help
      b) stop making social status matter for food
      c) again stop being rude and help people...
-- I think it would be easier to convince governments to help their people if they were actually shown the people and how they were living then they might go to the other ways i listed here as ways that will help.
3) Water Pollution
      a) world wide regulations to waste dumping
      b) make it so people can actually safely get rid of trash
      c) seriously though.. help people out..
-- This is honestly a huge issue and if the UN or someone could somehow convince other countries of properly getting rid of waste water everywhere would eventually be great.
4) Human Rights
      a) more acceptance of people
      b) everyone is equal and deserves the rights of the country they inhabit
-- This one is a bit more complicated but if more people could accept others then hey maybe it could work...
5) Arms Control
      a) more exact background checks
      b) the ability to have guns
-- touchy subject but i think guns are good for protection and to help weed out crazies there should be a more extensive background check.

And in all I believe War to be the top problem because it is something that has at some point in time influenced my other problems in the world and have led to them not being able to be properly fixed.

Week 3 Reading Reflection

1) Personally i just think it is pretty neat that they have actual words and definitions like "meta cognitive model" that help us understand entrepreneurship.. I just didn't think there would be actual i don't know fancy words or something...

2) I found it a little curious and confusing that everyone who talks about being an entrepreneur mentions taking risks and accepting criticism and I am just a little baffled the book didn't go more into depth with this.

3) What if I was really good at something but I hated it, could i still be an entrepreneur? ... I just think its and important question seeing as the author stresses passion.
How can risk be good in on paragraph but two pages later its a horrible thing? That just doesn't make sense to me..

4) I just don't like how the author tends to only focus on big companies.. There are some brilliant smaller companies out there with equally great entrepreneurs.. It's just not fair in my eyes..

World's Biggest Problems

1) Water Pollution-  in order to create a healthier population, there should be more regulations                    regarding dumping chemicals and other items into water that could be converted into healthy             drinking water.
2) War/Hate- for some weird reason all countries seem to have at least one country they hate causing        wars and death in thousands of innocent people. Leaders of countries should stop trying to input           their ideals on other countries in order to change them because that just causes problems..
3) Air Pollution- Everyone says that driving electrical cars is better for the environment, but if you           really look at it most electrical plants burn fossil fuels, so really the same amount of emissions are       being put in the air. To fix this we should convert all services to a cleaner energy resource.
4) Starving Populations- Richer parts of the country, instead of trying to be "Elite" they should                   actually help the rest of their country. They could donate food, lower prices, or even help them           farm their own food.
5) Arms Control- It should not be such a big deal to limit the civilians of their weapons, sure                         moderation is one thing but to completely say no is outrageous. Bad people kill people                         illegally, bad people, because they are bad and want to kill people will find any way to do that.           Law abiding citizens will not have weapons if they are against they law, so how will they                     protect themselves from bad people with guns? They wont. More restrictions should be made,             but weapons should be allowed.
6) Murder- Okay, I know this is a bit unclear, but my main point here is genocide in different                         communities. Some countries encourage genocide and they will murder people of other                       countries for having different views in life. So sure I can't control what other countries preach,             but it should be stressed by the UN or something that you kill someone of another culture, you             should be punished.
7) Human Rights- should be seen as equal to all people. Like in the US for instance, because we                   believe in the sanctity of human rights we should respect all culture who are here with the same           human rights we give each other. Don't discriminate.
8) Overpopulation- I personally don't think it's a bad thing to have all these people in the world, but i              do think that people should start populating other areas where there are no people rather than              trying to shove everyone in itty bitty little houses on top of each other.
9) Deforestation- because there are so many people needing places to live we are destroying forest                habitats to help make housing yet it is causing our air to not be so great.... it's an endless cycle            that I do not know how to completely solve without restricting people to the amount of                        children, and that would start messing with human rights...
10)Refugees- Personally i think we should cautiously help every human who needs it but that's just                 me.. If genuine help is something they seek out it should be something human kind would                   want to do.

Bug List

1) People leaving crumbs in the butter, or fork marks...
-- I think im just weirdly OCD about butter or I guess just sharing in general like it really just                   irritates the living daylights out of me.
2) I really do not like how the weird little Walmart on archer road barely has any food.
-- I just feel like because it is Walmart it should have a lot of food, especially on Archer where                all the other places are that sell food, it upsets me.
3) Also to build off that I do not like how that specific Walmart just seems all muggy and nasty.
-- It just makes me feel yucky in there..
4) When I have to share a bathroom with someone and their stuff is just everywhere.
-- I just think that if we have to share things should be clean and neat.
5) I do not like it when the 35 bus is packed, which is practically every afternoon.
-- I don't mind standing, but standing with three other people touching me is not something                     I am fond of.
6) To build off the bus issue, I do not like how some people are disrespectful, if I am at the back of
the bus it should be common courtesy to move a little so i can get off the bus.
-- Maybe i just feel like there should be a little bit more space in the bus.
7) I don't tend to like it when people are overly touchy..
-- I think I may have a slight issue with germs.
8) The WiFi at university commons hard core sucks.
-- The internet has gone out four times in the last hour..
9) I really hate how snap chat just decides to shut down in the middle of a message or something.
-- I'm usually in a hurry to send my message or whatever so when it restarts it bugs me..
10) When im trying to watch a you tube video but i can't because there is an add, and it takes a long          time to load..
-- this probably has something to do with my always hurrying things..
11) Honestly I feel like this list is bugging me..
-- I like making lists, but not a fan of explaining myself on my lists..
12) If i try a new thing because I think it is really cool then fail miserably at it.
-- I don't think it's the failing that gets me but more of the inability to get better..
13) I don't like that when I am trying to fix something for school every time I call the number I'm told        to call they always have to transfer me, then if i need to call again i have to go through the entire        process again...
-- Probably me trying to be in a hurry again....
14) I find it to be quite irksome when one person is taking up an entire table at the library. especially          in Library West.
-- I just think it's uncool of people to do that..
15) I don't like how expensive music is... all it makes us want to do is illegally download it
-- I love music but im cheap, so Pandora is my only resort..
16) There is a Taco Bell in my hometown and no matter how many times I went there they somehow        managed to mess up something on my order..
-- I want what i paid for not something similar.
17) I despise how expensive the books are for school!! Not even just here, they are all wayyyy to                expensive!
-- I just do not have the money to be spending $500 on books a semester...
18) I do not like how Cox cable treats its customers.
-- I called several times and they did not help. That's rude.
19) I don't like how when you burn a candle for a long time and it looks like the candle is still big but       the wick really only burned half the candle.
-- It is not asymmetrical and that bugs me..
20) I don't like how expensive plane tickets are...
-- There should be a college student discount...

Okay the first ten weren't so difficult to come up with but all the rest were wicked difficult.. Sure there are things in the world that bug me but most of the time I just kind of forget about it and ignore them... So I think that's why it took me over an hour to do this!

week 2 Reading Reflection

1) What was the biggest surprise for you in the reading? In other words, what did you read that stood out the most as different from your expectations?

  • Personally I had never really looked at entrepreneurs as people who just change things, i always say them as people who created businesses and sold stuff. Granted I should have known that there was more to it, but it was fairly surprising to see everything that entrepreneurs are responsible for.
2) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
  • I became a bit confused when the author hyped up the fact that entrepreneurs change the world by doing these seemingly little things, then not three paragraphs later they are only people who innovate.
3) If you were able to ask two questions to the author, what would you ask? Why?
  • Can an entrepreneur be someone that uses the ideas of another person, but actually has the motivation to complete the process and succeed?-- The reading seemed to only focus on the "innovative ideas", but what if that idea is someone else's and they just drop it but i complete the idea, who would be the entrepreneur in that situation?
  • Can one be an entrepreneur, but not be the head role of his/her business?-- pretty much same reason as question before..
4) Was there anything you think the author was wrong about? Where do you disagree with what she or he said? How?
  • I don't believe that entrepreneurs are only people that have innovative ideas, but are people who are active in the society and making a difference in the world while the author tends to only focus on innovative ideas.

My Entrepreneurship Story

So I cannot think of too many entrepreneurs that I have met other than maybe David Nassau. He is also an innovation academy student here, and probably the most "Entrepreneuriest" people I have met in this program. The innovation academy is also the reason in which I am taking this course, but I do hope to learn a lot about myself and how to change the world around me using information from this class.

Introduction week 2

Hi everyone, my name is Katelyn Seavey, but everyone calls me Katie. I am an Anthropology major in the Innovation Academy at the University of Florida. I am not 100% sure on what I want to do with my degree, but i am very interested in Linguistic, Cultural, and Biological Anthropology. I have worked for the military for going on five years now so if I can in fact still work for the military with an anthropological background my life will be complete. I do not know what else to say other than i have been in almost every state of the US but most of them along the west coast. Also this is a picture of me from about the time I decided what I wanted to do with my life, and that is why I choose it.
